Getting to know your new crystal…
Yay for new crystals! Now what?
Each crystal carries unique energies and properties, and getting to know them can be an incredibly rewarding and enriching experience. So let’s talk a little bit about how to cleanse, and charge your crystals, as well as some crystal best practices from my own experience.
Cleansing and Clearing: When you first get your crystal home, I always encourage people to do a little energetic cleanse. This will allow your crystal to release any frequencies that are not it’s own, that it may have been carrying from , not just the place you got it from, but the place before that, and sometimes before that, as well as any handlers in between. Now, when you purchase from me, this isn’t sooo serious because I tend to smoke cleanse all of my inventory regularly, as well as charge out going orders with the new and full moon phases; but I can’t speak for all businesses, and even then, when you really think about it, your order still changes hands multiple times between me and you. As for specific methods for cleansing, here are a few of my favs:
Smoke Cleansing - Palo Santo, Sage, Cedar, Dragon’s Blood, Juniper, Rosemary, or your favorite incense- give your crystals a quick little smoke bath is a great way to break up and stagnant energy.
Salt Bath or Selenite - Submerge your new crystal into a bowl of salt, this will cleanse and renew the stones energy in minutes. Similarly, if you have a good piece of Selenite, place your new crystals on or around it. Selenite is a naturally self cleansing and charging crystal and you can use it for other pieces in your collection! I always have some form of Selenite in the shop, so if you don’t have one that you’re obsessed with, you can find a piece here.
Water Cleansing - Please, please, please do not get your crystal wet unless you know that it’s water safe. If you’re not sure, look it up. If you’re still not sure, don’t risk it. Chemical reactions are no joke and can be soo unpredictable and not worth it. Once you’re positive your crystal is water safe, place your crystal under cool flowing water. This can absolutely be from a sink, but can be extremely magical if you can get you water safe crystal to the ocean or a stream. I love doing this seasonally with specific stones that I know I’m planning on doing a lot of work with.
Sounds Cleansing - One of my favorite methods, especially for people who may not be able to smoke cleanse as freely. Play frequency music, or any music that feels cleansing/ high vibrational to you. If you’re really in a pinch you can literally speak to them, let them know they are free to release energy that is not theirs, and that they are cleansed.
Set your intentions - Okay, now that your crystal is fresh and ready for you, lets set some intentions. Grab your crystal and take a mindful moment. As you hold your new crystal in your hand, visualize your desires or goals. You can speak your intentions aloud, or silently. Just focus on infusing your crystal with the energies you wish for it to amplify or support in your life.
Bonding Ritual - This sounds way more intense than it is, I promise. This is simply about creating a bond between you and your crystal. This can be as simple as placing your new crystal under your pillow for a few nights if it’s something your using to explore dream work or spiritual communication, or meditating with your crystal so it can really get into your energy. My biggest tip with this (this can also be applied to getting acquainted to a new spiritual divination tool like a tarot or oracle deck) is to just stick it on your nightstand for a few nights. This allows your energy (especially when your conscious mind is less active) to blend with the energy of your new crystal.
Explore the properties - This may be an unpopular opinion, but I love researching crystals AFTER I’ve already created my own connection with them. Google is your friend here. Take some intentional time to learn and research about your crystals metaphysical properties, associated chakras, areas of life they support, and even astrological associations. You’d be surprised at just how many “AH HA” moments you could have as you strat to learn more and more. I have had soooo many “Oh, THAT”S why I was drawn to this” moments that are so beautiful, and I’m always so grateful for those extra little nudges and nods of validation.
